BENEFITS OF LEARNING MUSIC
There are many reasons why music benefits a person and can develop into a skill for a lifetime of pleasure. Scientific research has shown how learning an instrument can improve your sense of wellbeing and general happiness. The skills are transferable to everyday life:
- Improved concentration
- Improved mental and physical coordination and body posture
- Develop and strengthen your mental memory
- Encourage a range of listening skills
- Self expression and an awareness of your individual creativity
- Motivation and improved goal setting
- Ability to work alone and problem solve effectively
- Develop good personal time-management skills

HELPFUL TIPS FOR NEW STUDENTS
1. It is okay to make mistakes and an important part of the learning and discovery process. Nobody is perfect - including your teacher!
2. Read your cello diary notebook every time you practice, it will help you know what to listen for and what to play next and for roughly how long.
3. Keep a note of your practice time, even if it is only 5 minutes – remember every minute counts.
4. Any questions? Stuck on something? Use the diary to write your queries down. That way, I can help you next time I see you. If you are really confused, contact me. I like hearing from you.
5. If you hear a tune, song or piece that you like, write down the name of it in your cello diary. I’ll do my best to track it down so that you can learn it.
